Is ceramic window tint worth it in Detroit's climate?

Detroit has a hot-summer humid continental climate, with a 1991–2020 July mean daily high of 83.7°F and a January mean daily low of 19.2°F. Ceramic is our premium film and the one we recommend for most drivers, because it reduces interior heat, and our carbon and ceramic film is rated for 99% UV rejection.

Summer sun is hard on seats, dashboards and trim, and heat reduction and UV rejection are what a quality tint film is for. We'll help you pick the film that fits how you drive and what you want from it.

Multiple times a week, customers come to us to fix bubbling, purple or peeling tint from other shops, and in our experience cheap tint fails after six months. That's why we install only carbon and ceramic film.

Not sure between ceramic and carbon? Our carbon vs ceramic tint guide explains the difference, and our window tint page covers both films.

What does Michigan law say about window tint in Detroit?

Michigan's tint law, MCL 257.709, is about which windows can carry film and how reflective it is, not how dark it is. In front, tinted film is limited to a strip along the top edge, and behind the driver nonreflective tint is exempt. The statute sets no darkness percentage.

Our Michigan window tint laws guide goes window by window, including the medical exemption. This isn't legal advice, and we go over what's allowed on your vehicle when you choose your film.

How long does a window tint appointment take?

Most vehicles take 2 to 4 hours. A full vehicle, curved rear windows, small quarter panels and old-tint removal can all add time.

We cut every pattern on a computer plotter, so the film fits your glass with clean edges, and we inspect each window for clarity and adhesion. The film keeps curing for 3 to 7 days, and small water pockets may appear and disappear on their own. Don't roll the windows down for 5 days or wash the film for 30 days, and clean it with mild soap and a soft, clean cloth or synthetic sponge rather than abrasive cleaners.

What warranty comes with window tint?

As a manufacturer-authorized installer, we install carbon and ceramic film backed by the manufacturer's lifetime limited warranty, which runs for as long as the original customer owns the vehicle. It covers peeling, cracking, adhesive failure, delamination and purple color change, and the remedy is replacing film that doesn't meet the warranty.

Ghosting isn't covered. Keep your warranty card and proof of purchase, and contact us first if you ever need to make a claim.
