How do I get from Detroit to Elite Auto Lab?

Take I-75 north. North of M-102 (8 Mile Road), the freeway crosses out of Detroit and into Oakland County, and 8 Mile Road is exit 59. Keep going to exit 65, 14 Mile Road, which sits on the Madison Heights–Troy city line; our shop is at 436 E 14 Mile Rd. On the way you pass the I-696 interchange (exit 61), 11 Mile Road (exit 62) and 12 Mile Road (exit 63).

Through Detroit, I-75 is the Fisher Freeway or the Walter P. Chrysler Freeway, named for pioneers in the auto industry. I-75 runs along the west side of Madison Heights and I-696 along its southern border, so one interstate takes you most of the way. Use a map app for current ramps and the final turns.

What does auto detailing include?

Auto detailing is the thorough cleaning, restoration and protection of a vehicle's interior and exterior, which goes well beyond a car wash. At Elite Auto Lab that means a hand wash and decontamination, paint correction when the paint needs it, protection such as sealant or ceramic coating, and a full interior clean.

Our menu runs from maintenance washes and full details to multi-stage paint correction and ceramic coating, so you can start with what the vehicle needs and add protection later.

Why do Detroit drivers book a detail?

I-75 runs through Detroit as the Fisher Freeway or the Walter P. Chrysler Freeway, and freeway miles mean brake dust, tar and road film bonded to the paint. A hand wash and clay bar remove the contaminants a quick wash leaves behind.

Detroit's major parks include Campus Martius, Belle Isle and Chene Park, and a day out can leave dirt and crumbs in the cabin. Interior detailing reaches the seats, carpets, vents and cupholders, and since salt speeds up rust on cars, a detail after the winter is worth scheduling.

A ceramic coating after the detail keeps the finish easier to wash through the winter, and we can quote the detail and the coating together.

What is the difference between a wash and a detail?

A wash cleans the surface. A detail cleans, decontaminates and protects, addressing paint, interior, glass, wheels and trim with specialized products and techniques.

What does an interior detail include?

An interior detail covers a full vacuum, steam cleaning of all surfaces, leather cleaning and conditioning, carpet and upholstery extraction, vent cleaning, interior glass and trim restoration.

We also remove pet hair with specialized tools and can treat pet odors with ozone or enzyme cleaners, so a vehicle with a neglected interior can be brought back.

What does exterior detailing and paint correction involve?

Exterior detailing starts with a hand wash, foam cannon treatment and clay bar that remove bonded contaminants such as brake dust, tar and industrial fallout. If the paint needs it, we then polish it, which is the step that corrects paint, with multi-stage compounding to remove swirls, scratches, water spots and oxidation.

Protection comes next: a paint sealant, spray wax or ceramic coating locks in the correction. Wheels and tires are cleaned and dressed, windows are polished streak-free, and a final walk-around under show lighting catches anything left.

Light scratches and swirls come out with paint correction. Deep scratches that reach the primer or metal need a body shop, but we can assess what is possible.

How often should I detail my car?

We recommend a full detail two to four times a year for a daily driver, with maintenance washes in between, and a seasonal deep clean after Michigan winters. A vehicle with a ceramic coating needs less frequent intervention. Downtown Detroit is roughly 12 miles from our shop, so for a full detail or correction that takes more than a day, we will plan the drop-off and pickup with you.

How long does a detail take?

A maintenance detail takes about 4 hours, and a full paint correction with a ceramic coating can take 3 or more days. The time depends on the service level, the vehicle's size and paint condition, how soiled the interior is, and the coating's cure time.

Can a detail prepare my car for ceramic coating, PPF or a wrap?

Yes. Decontamination and paint correction are the prep for all three, because coatings and film lock in whatever is underneath. Once the paint is ready we can apply a ceramic coating, paint protection film or a vinyl wrap.

How much does auto detailing cost in Detroit?

It depends on the service level (wash, detail, correction or coating), your vehicle's size, the paint's condition and how much cleaning the interior needs. The quickest way to an exact number is a free quote with your year, make and model.
